About

About me

I am a Professor of Demography (Professora Adjunta) in the Departamento de Demografia, Faculdade de Ciências Econômicas (FACE), Cedeplar, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

Before returning to UFMG, I spent six years as a research scientist at the Vienna Institute of Demography (VID), Austrian Academy of Sciences, as part of the Health and Longevity (HELO) research group led by Dr. Marc Luy, within the Wittgenstein Centre for Demography and Global Human Capital (IIASA, OeAW, University of Vienna). There I worked primarily on sensitivity analysis of healthy life expectancy indicators across different measurement and estimation methods, within the ERC project Levels and Trends of Health Expectancy: Understanding its Measurement and Estimation Sensitivity.

My research focuses on the methodological challenges in measuring health and mortality, gender gaps in mortality and morbidity, lifespan variability and inequality, and the longevity of specific subgroups. I am committed to open and reproducible science, and I enjoy the intersection of formal mathematical demography with applied statistical computing.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences with a minor in Philosophy from FAFICH/UFMG, and a Master’s and Doctorate in Demography from Cedeplar/FACE/UFMG.

I am also one of the editors of the Vienna Yearbook of Population Research (VYPR). Feel free to get in touch about submissions.

Outside research, I am a piano and cello player in the making, a tennis enthusiast, swimmer, cook, and reader — still very much a philosophy student at heart.
